BOOK REVIew- Boy Soldier by Andy McNab READ V.IMP FOR DA PSP TRUST ME PLEAAAAAAAAAAAZ

This book, by Andy McNab and Robert Rigby, is filled with suspense, adventure, corruption and packed with twists, which are the things that a teenage boy looks for in a novel.

The book starts of with a boy, Danny, who is trying out for the SAS. It introduces him as a strong, hard-working and determined 17 year-old boy. Danny aced every task that was given to him and felt that he had done the best he possibly could. He was confident that he would get in but when he found out that he was dropped he was flabbergasted. The reason that he doesn’t get in is because of something that his ‘missing’ grandfather did. This is a great way to start a book since it shows the reader that his grandfather has done something really bad and which urges the reader to keep on reading the book.

The author then switches to a different storyline. It shows an old man who works at a burger bar, called Frankie. It shows how this man leads a private life. The author makes it quite obvious that this man was Danny’s grandfather. Meanwhile, Danny and his friend Elena are on the computer researching Danny’s grandfather, Fergus Watts. They are soon astounded when they find out that Danny’s grandfather was a traitor to his country and betrayed the SAS in a mission in Columbia. This is a smart was to link the plots since the reader knows that the two different stories are going to link when Danny eventually meets his granddad.

The next thing in the book is that Danny goes to the retired ex-SAS area to ask a few questions about his grandfather. He finds a man who knows a bit about him but won’t let out any information- that man calls up Fergus and Danny suspects that. He pick-pockets his mobile, gets the number and returns the phone. It is an ingenious way to show how Danny manages to get his Fergus’ number.

From that number his genius friend Elena manages to track down Fergus and that gave Danny a location, exactly what he needed but what he didn’t realize was he was being followed by the special services all the way. At the moment that Danny meets his grandfather, one would expect there to be a happy moment but it was the opposite- His grandfather realizes that that was Danny and they exchanged a few bad words which was followed by his grandfather grabbing Danny and shoving him in his car. He explained to Danny that now the SAS wanted then both dead but Danny didn’t was too angry to understand. It was extremely funny to visualise the reaction when Danny me this grandfather and vice-versa.

They then drive carefully to Fergus’ house knowing that they were being followed and then ran in his house and took cover underground in a secret compartment. After many MI6 burst in with their guns holstered looking the kill them but got nowhere. At that moment I realized that now their mission was to survive and they were a team although Danny was still angry.

After all the hatred towards Fergus by Danny and the reader, he explains that he was framed by the SAS. It was actually the leader who was the traitor but he had to set-up someone. Danny finds it hard to understand at first but he realizes that his grandfather is telling the truth. There is then a new objective- to prove Fergus’ innocence. He explained that there was only one man that knew and had to get to him… This was a happy moment on the book where Danny and Fergus finally get along!

They had to go from place to place getting closer and closer to their target but had to be careful since there were people out to get them all over the place. During their time in hiding, Fergus was teaching all the SAS tricks to Danny of survival.

After a very long while, they get right outside of their target’s home after encountering tough biker guys, sleeping in beanbags and urinating to plastic bags! They go in the garden and see a man talking to the wife of their target. They find out that the MI6 were one step ahead and killed their only source- this was probably the saddest moment in th
